thanks coach!
Hello peeps!
COACH CEDRIC CREATED A BLOG FOR US FENCERS!!!!And he posted about the Pesta Sukan Competition, and he's really encouraging, look at what he wrote:
Over the weekend, SMSS fencing club took part in the annual Pesta Sukan Team Fencing Competition organized by Fencing Singapore.
The competition drew clubs from various Secondary schools, JCs, Universities around Singapore, as well as current and ex-national team members (most of which were SEA games participants). Almost every club in Singapore was represented.
Saturday was the Ladies Epee Team event, while Sunday was Ladies Foil.
Due to the fact the fencers had no national ranking, the first matches for both events turned out to be against the Singapore national team.
Despite the SMSS girls having,
* Less training time (Nat team fencers train almost everyday for 2-3 hours)
* Less experience (Nat team fencers go overseas to represent Singapore for tournaments on a regular basis)
* The disadvantage of being of a younger age.
The girls fenced their hearts out.
There was no crying when they lost, there was no whining, there was only the determination to fence their best.
The girls could have declined to participate in such a difficult competition and no one would have blamed them. But it took a certain level of maturity and poise coming to a competition knowing they were the underdog and would probably get knocked out early, yet try their hardest for every point. They did not fear defeat.
To see young fencers not giving up even though they were down and outclassed, cheering for their teammates, and fighting strong till the last point is worth watching more than any other match.
The main takeaways from the competition was that they watched Singapore's top fencers in action, gained valuable competition experience, and most importantly understood the idea of functioning as a team while supporting their club mates.
The scoreline is ultimately not as important as trying your best. And trying your best while you're down? That for me, is what separates true champions from the winners.
Hopefully, SMSS Fencing as a whole will work harder for the remainder of this year to take their fencing to the next level, and also forge stronger bonds between one another.
Remember, fencing isn't just about scoring points.Heh,we sound so heroic sia.
